Hello! My name is Ms. Sheila, and I am currently an instructional coach and tutor in Chicago. I previously taught second grade at Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph, where I developed a deep love for working closely with students and their families. Although I now call the Midwest home, I will always be a California girl at heart, having been born and raised in sunny Pasadena.
My education journey began at the University of Notre Dame, where I majored in psychology with a minor in education. I became fascinated by how students' brains develop, learn, and process new information, which led me to pursue teaching as a career. After graduation, I joined Notre Dame’s Alliance for Catholic Education and earned my master’s in education. Through this program, I taught in Jacksonville, Florida, where I worked with a diverse group of students and gained insight into the many ways children approach learning.
Since moving to Chicago, I have loved getting to know my students, their families, and their unique learning styles. Education should build on a child's strengths rather than force them into a one-size-fits-all model. Every student can succeed when given the proper support, and I am passionate about developing individualized learning plans that help each child thrive.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends in the city, and taking long walks with my foster dogs. I am constantly researching best teaching practices to ensure I provide students with the most effective and engaging learning experience possible.
I look forward to collaborating with students, families, and fellow educators to help every child reach their full potential!
