What is tutoring?
Tutoring is private academic support, usually provided by an expert teacher, someone with deep knowledge of defined expertise in a particular subject or set of subjects.
What does tutoring mean to JAM?
Tutoring is a personalized support outside provided by a teacher or tutor. We facilitate relationships between a qualified professional and a learner. Tutoring includes building a relationship of trust, exploration, learning, and growth within a trusting environment. We believe tutoring equips learners for life with the utilization of problem-solving, persistence, and lifelong learning strategies.
What are the benefits of tutoring?
*Positive relationship with learning! When a learner and tutor are well paired, sessions produce academic gains and create a positive association for the student with learning!
*Individualized learning catered to a learner’s unique needs, including learning style, pacing, materials, and high-interest content.
*Strengthening skills where there may be deficits or need for additional practice.
*Gain confidence in their learning and improved self-esteem. When learners can see their successes during a tutoring session, they will feel more confident to take risks at school and in life.
*Transferable skills are taught, practiced, and reinforced in a tutoring session which transfers to classroom instructional practices.
*Improved overall academic performance with increased understanding of content and decreased stress.
*Early intervention is critical! If there are developmental delays or learning struggles, the earlier tutoring starts, the better. We call it “closing the gap” or increasing a learner's skills as close to grade-level expectations as possible.
*Facilitates robust learning and work habits at home that are transferable to school!
