Hello, Families! My name is Mr. Alex. I have been a private tutor for 10 years. I currently tutor various school subjects (calculus, history, physics, and everything in between) and ACT/SAT prep to many students throughout the Chicagoland area. I also run a weekly ACT/SAT prep course in Grayslake and help students with college applications.
I was raised in Vernon Hills, and my educational journey began at Duke University, where I majored in political science and history. Intrigued by the role of rules and regulations in improving people's lives, I intend to continue my education and attend law school.
Beyond tutoring, my professional experience includes co-founding a nonprofit to increase internet accessibility for people with disabilities. This experience has ignited a deep passion for individualized education, and I'm particularly skilled at supporting neurodivergent students. I understand their unique challenges and am committed to providing the support they need to succeed.
Outside the classroom, I love to play music, explore nature, and travel, giving me a well-rounded perspective that I bring into my teaching approach.
A guiding quote encapsulating my teaching philosophy is, "Do not use a cannon to kill a mosquito." Though Confucius's words do not directly pertain to education, they emphasize that we should not take one-size-fits-all approaches to life or education. This aligns with my commitment to individualized teaching because I recognize that every student has unique learning needs.
At JAM, I'm excited to apply my versatile teaching strategies to support the whole child academically, emotionally, and socially. After all, as Aristotle said, "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." I am committed to building strong relationships with families, understanding their unique needs, and becoming a key resource in your child's educational journey. I can't wait to learn together!
