Mr. Alex

Hello, Families! My name is Mr. Alex. I have been a private tutor for ten years, working with students across the Chicagoland area in subjects ranging from calculus and history to physics and standardized test preparation. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I run a weekly ACT/SAT prep course in Grayslake and assist students with their college applications, helping them confidently navigate the admissions process.

I grew up in Vernon Hills and attended Duke University, where I majored in political science and history. My studies deepened my appreciation for how rules and structures shape society, and I plan to continue my education by attending law school. My passion for teaching stems from my belief that learning should be an individualized experience tailored to each student’s strengths, interests, and challenges.

Beyond tutoring, I co-founded a nonprofit dedicated to increasing internet accessibility for people with disabilities. This work reinforced my belief in the power of personalized learning, particularly for neurodivergent students. I am committed to understanding their unique needs and providing the tools and strategies necessary for their success.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing music, exploring nature, and traveling. These experiences broadened my perspective and shaped my approach to education, reminding me that learning happens in many ways, both inside and outside the classroom.

A quote that encapsulates my teaching philosophy is, "Do not use a cannon to kill a mosquito." While Confucius’s words may not directly reference education, they emphasize that a one-size-fits-all approach is not always practical. This aligns with my commitment to individualized instruction, ensuring every student receives the support and guidance best suited to their learning style.

Education is not just about academics but about fostering curiosity, confidence, and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. As Aristotle said, "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." I aim to help students grow into independent learners who feel empowered to tackle challenges and achieve their full potential.
