My name is Ms. Anushree. I am a medical student at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Moving to Chicago has been such an incredibly exciting time of my life. In my spare time, you can find me going for walks or jogging by the lake, exploring restaurants in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area, and occasionally doing some crafting (I love painting)!
I was raised in Solon, Ohio, a suburb outside of Cleveland, and my educational journey began at the University of Pennsylvania, where I majored in Neuroscience. Starting in AP Biology, I was always interested in studying what makes us unique and the science behind our thought processes and development, and through my major, I got to learn so much about exactly that! I also took numerous pre-medical courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, etc. I worked in the healthcare field throughout college, volunteering at the Philadelphia VA and conducting research at the Children’s Hospital. My passion for science led me to apply to medical school to pursue an MD! In addition to science, I also love reading and English. English was one of my favorite subjects in high school, and I took a creative writing course in college that I adored. I still try to read as much as possible in my spare time.
My professional experience includes working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Pediatric Infectious Disease department. In this position, I was responsible for facilitating coordination with multiple participating hospitals for our research studies, managing data, and composing multiple grant proposals and manuscripts. This experience allowed me to hone my organization, time management, and attention to detail skills. Additionally, I tutored Chemistry 101 for 2 years in college and volunteered for Mighty Writers, where I tutored middle and high schoolers. Because of my professional and volunteer experience, I am suited to work with children from all age groups, from elementary school up until high school.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading, baking, cooking, and exploring new neighborhoods in Chicago. Some of my favorite books have been Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, and Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. Challenging myself by trying new recipes and reading as much as possible outside of school has enabled me to have a growth mindset and tell myself that I can always try new hobbies and continue to learn more, even outside of medical school.
A guiding quote summarizes my teaching philosophy: "Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I remember. Involve me, and I learn.” This quote symbolizes how each child has unique strengths and interests that must be harnessed to enhance their learning experience. I want to involve my students as much as possible in their learning process!
At JAM, I will apply the mindset of collaboration, communication, and persistence in our journey together. I want my students to feel like they can discuss anything with me and know that my number one goal is for them to succeed, no matter how we do it. I look forward to building a relationship with them and their families. Can’t wait to learn together!
