Hello! My name is Ms. Carrie, and I was born and raised in Chicago, with 20+ years of experience in education. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grade. I also provided instructional support and coaching to middle and high school teachers and received my National Boards for Middle School Education. I graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with a BS in Journalism and then got my Masters in Elementary Education from DePaul University. Since then, I have worked in Chicago schools for 15 years and then spent several years supporting schools nationwide with literacy and math support. I love the joy of preparing preschoolers for kindergarten just as much as I value the incredible experience of supporting high schoolers as they prepare for college testing. I spent several years teaching students to read and coaching teachers on literacy best practices. I tutored students as young as four years old with phonemic awareness and concepts of print. Also, I worked with 18-year-olds, supporting their ability to navigate prose fiction passages for ACT testing. In addition to school and tutoring experience, I am the mom of two teenagers. One is a sophomore in high school hoping to pursue an engineering career, and the other is on her way to college in Wisconsin for Nursing next year. I love to hike and spend time outdoors whenever possible, and as a lover of concerts and musicals, I see live performances as often as possible. I am passionate about helping students learn in a way that empowers them and makes them feel confident! With years of experience with executive functioning support and expertise in many academic areas, I thrive on adjusting all sessions for the students before me and helping them achieve their goals. I aim for every student to see their potential and leave sessions feeling improved. I look forward to the opportunity to help and support your child!
