I am a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have completed my M.Ed. with a Type 04 Teaching Certificate and an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education and ESL (English as a Second Language). I am trained in the Orton Gillingham approach. I am a National Louis University student and have completed my Ed.S in Educational Leadership. I will start the next phase of obtaining my doctorate later this year.
I have over twelve years of teaching experience. My last teaching position was an inclusion third-grade teacher, with over 1/3rd of the population having special needs and English language learners. I was the district-wide lead reading teacher for Special Education. I am a Director of Tutoring Services for Amplify Reading and coach, mentor, and guide tutors who provide small group reading instruction to students at several CPS schools. I have a combination of practical work experience and solid educational experience in urban education.
Here are a few highlights about me: I have three children. My oldest daughter is finishing college in Nashville, Tennessee. My middle son attends Nazareth High School. My youngest daughter is graduating 8th grade this year. We have 2 doggies that bring us so much joy! My hobbies are cooking, gardening, and training our dogs.
