Hello! My name is Ms. Kristen, and I am currently a reading and math intervention specialist at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity. I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, coming to the city often. I graduated from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI, with a degree in Elementary Education. Right after graduation, I moved to Lakeview and have lived in this area ever since! I started as a classroom teacher and had the honor of teaching Kindergarten, 2nd, and 5th grade during my time there, but I have since transitioned to an intervention specialist for students in K-8. ! I love the small group and one-on-one sessions because I can target their specific areas of need in more depth and, therefore, see much more growth! I am also skilled and trained in the Orton Gillingham approach. If I am not teaching, you can find me at my local HIIT studio, playing beach volleyball with friends, or exploring the food scene in Chicago.
My favorite thing about teaching is that I learn something new every day! Whether it’s researching a topic related to student interests, diving deeper into questions they might have, or exploring new ideas for how to teach something, I get to explore new ideas a lot. I have found that learning with students and being invested in their interests and learning approach creates engagement for everyone involved in the learning process! Education is my passion, and I feel lucky to continue growing with my students and colleagues daily.
