Hi! My name is Ms. Marie, and I am thrilled to be part of the JAM Teaching and Consulting team. With 13 years of experience as a Family and Consumer Science Teacher in the Northwest Suburbs, I am now stepping outside the traditional classroom to offer a more personalized approach to learning. My goal is to help students and families not just survive but thrive during their academic journey. I am particularly adept at guiding students and families through the myriad opportunities and challenges of school, especially the high school years.
Born & raised in the northwest suburb of Arlington Heights, my goals and dreams of teaching began during my years at Prospect High School. Here, I was lucky enough to have had some of the best teachers who motivated and inspired me to help others how they helped me. My educational journey began at Eastern Illinois University where I majored in Family Consumer Sciences while being a 4 year Division One Athlete. I decided to continue my education at Concordia University Chicago, receiving my Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction. I have spent many years working closely with special education programs and other areas of inclusivity in the classroom, and I have found immense joy in having an open classroom for all students.
In my 13 years of teaching, I have experienced many amazing students while coaching at the Varsity level and leading many groups and clubs. These experiences have further deepened my passion for helping families by assisting them in understanding ALL of what school has to offer inside and outside the classroom. School can be an overwhelming experience for BOTH students and their families, and I pride myself on being that 'middle man' of support.. Being an incredibly involved teacher, I have developed an understanding of the demands of being a student that reach beyond the classroom including social & social media pressures, athletic demands and competition, and executive functioning skills.
When I am not in the classroom, I remain a constant teacher with my two boys, Wesley (4) and William (2.5), who inspire me to be the best person I can be and make this world a better place for them to grow up in. As a family, we love to travel and experience different places and people to develop a well-rounded understanding of everything this world offers and more!
I am truly excited about the prospect of working with your family. My goal is not just to help your child succeed academically but to ensure they have a fulfilling and enriching high school experience. I look forward to helping them find their unique place in the school community.
