Hello, Families! My name is Ms. Michelle. I have been teaching at the middle school level for the past 10 years, and I have taught 7th-grade mathematics and accelerated mathematics classes for most of my career.
I grew up in Woodridge and attended school in Downers Grove. I then attended Illinois State University, majoring in Elementary Education and received endorsements in middle school math, English, and science.
Throughout my 10 years of teaching, I have enjoyed working with hundreds of middle school students. Through these experiences, I have honed my craft and explored many different ways of teaching and reaching all types of learners. I have always tried my best to avoid teaching the way I was taught in middle school. Being told there was only one way to solve a problem, having to memorize formulas, and copying down work from the board were all things that never worked for me as a learner. With that said, I am constantly changing how I teach because I need to find a way to reach the specific learners in front of me. I continually invest time into getting to know my students and providing fun and engaging experiences to make them feel comfortable, encourage them to be curious, and genuinely enjoy learning.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my daughter and husband, doing DIY projects, attending Chicago Cubs games, visiting friends and family, and spending time outdoors. I also love to learn and try new things. Any chance I get to try new foods, go somewhere new, experience something I’ve never done before, or meet new people are all opportunities for me to grow as a person and as an educator. This commitment to growth extends to my professional life, where I always seek new ways to enhance my teaching and better serve my students.
I am eagerly looking forward to getting to know you and your child and to playing a part in their growth into the person and learner they are destined to be.
