My name is Ms. Rhonda, and I am thrilled to be part of the JAM Teaching and Consulting team. I currently tutor grades 2-8 and guide high school students through reading comprehension, writing composition, and the college application process in Lincoln Park, Chicago.
I grew up in Long Beach, California, with sun and sand. My educational journey began at Occidental College in Los Angeles, where I majored in German. Intrigued by German culture and history, I continued my education and received my Masters and Doctorate in German language and literature from the University of California, Irvine.
My professional journey is a testament to my expertise. I have served as a Lecturer at Penn State University, Head of English Dept. at German-American School San Francisco, co-founder and former Principal of German International School Chicago, and most recently, I have been doing outreach at schools with my mindfulness program to equip students with tools to manage stress. These experiences have instilled in me a deep passion for communication, English language arts, social studies, and biology. I am particularly adept at supporting students with executive functioning, anxiety, and social-emotional needs.
Outside the classroom, I love to read, hike, do yoga, and ocean swim. These activities give me a well-rounded perspective that I bring into my teaching approach. There are so many ways to take in the world!
A guiding quote encapsulating my teaching philosophy is, "The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you" from B.B. King. I like this quote because it emphasizes the learner. This sentiment underscores my commitment to individualized teaching, as I recognize that every child is unique in their learning needs.
At JAM, I'm excited to apply my versatile teaching strategies to support the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially. I am committed to building strong relationships with families and becoming a valuable resource in your child's educational journey. I eagerly look forward to embarking on this learning journey with you and your child. Together, we can achieve great things!
