My name is Ms. Sommer, and I am an educator currently working as a one-on-one teacher and third-grade interventionist in Bloomington, Indiana. I have spent the past several years teaching, primarily as a first-grade teacher, where I developed a deep passion for literacy instruction and student support.
I was born and raised in Bloomington and earned my degree in elementary education from Indiana University. My love of learning led me to pursue a career in teaching, and I am now furthering my education with a master's degree in curriculum development and teacher leadership.
My experience has given me specialized skills in teaching reading, supporting students with dyslexia, and providing social-emotional and behavioral interventions. Every child can succeed with the proper support, encouragement, and strategies.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy crafting, attending theater and dance performances, exploring art museums, and listening to story-based podcasts. Creativity and storytelling influence my approach to teaching, making learning more engaging and meaningful.
A quote that guides my teaching philosophy is, "Teaching is the greatest act of optimism." I strive to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where students feel confident and supported. I look forward to working with students and families to help each child grow and thrive.
