Hello Families! My name is Ms. Verónica. I was raised in the beautiful and warm city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, before moving to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago, where I earned a B.A. in history. My curiosity about the "why" behind everything has always driven me—understanding cause and effect has shaped how I approach learning and teaching. That same curiosity fuels my work with students, ensuring they learn and understand concepts meaningfully.
I earned an M.S. in elementary education and social policy from Northwestern University and a middle school endorsement. Additionally, I hold endorsements in bilingual education and English as a second language from Loyola University Chicago.
For over a decade, I worked in Chicago Public Schools, spending the last seven years in the diverse and vibrant neighborhood of Rogers Park. My experience in the classroom has deepened my passion for reading and writing and, perhaps most surprisingly, for math. I am highly skilled in differentiating instruction, supporting language and academic needs, working with students with diverse socio-emotional backgrounds, and tracking progress to determine what additional support a student may need. My approach is designed to meet students where they are and help them gain confidence in their abilities.
Outside of teaching, I love traveling, reading, working out, trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors, and enjoying time with family and friends—including our dog, Lucía. I also sincerely appreciate early mornings, especially when they involve coffee before the city wakes up.
Families play an essential role in a child’s success, and I am committed to working collaboratively to ensure that each student flourishes academically and personally. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered, engaged, and ready to reach their full potential.
